Question about Naviance/Common App/MIT Application

Hi,

I’m kind of confused in general, so sorry for the trivial questions.

My school uses Naviance for teacher recommendations.

I saw on MIT’s website that they have an MIT specific form that is to be filled out regardless of whether you are using Naviance to submit your rec. However, my counselor wasn’t sure about that.

Now my many questions:
Do my teachers have to fill something separate when uploading my rec for MIT?
Doesn’t the same rec go to every college?
Additionally, do I have to re-request the recs for every college?
In common app, am I able to select which recs to send to each college?

I’m mainly just confused about the process for MIT. It also says on the MIT application portal that "You will only be able to submit your application with two teacher evaluations and one school counselor/Secondary School Report. " How do I indicate on the application that my materials are being sent through Naviance?

Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks!

MIT has its own app that isn’t linked to Naviance. Your counselor will need to upload the LoRs separately for MIT.

For all the Common App schools, if your app is linked to Naviance and you mark which schools you’re applying to, your counselor will be able to upload to them all at once.

I agree with the above. And, if you HS GC doesn’t understand/isn’t sure, they should contact MIT admissions so they can be sure to get it right.

MIT’s staff is very helpful with high schools not familiar with the process.

Please make sure to read the directions on the site and encourage your counselor to do the same. The directions are straight forward. Here is info for the counselor:

You, the applicant, pushes the requests to the correct people. They are managed through the portal.
