Question about NMSF Applications

Hi fellow CCers--> I have a question:

I (class of 2011) am planning to take the SAT this Saturday (May 1); if I do not do well enough to "confirm" my PSAT score for NMSF applications, am I obligated to submit it once the deadline for Semifinalist applications arrives?

Or: Can I decide to take the October SAT if I do badly and submit my best score AFTER I receive the second (OCT 2010 SAT) score?

Since the deadline in 2010 (mid-October) is probably going to be like that of last year's, I'm worried that if I do not do well on my May SAT, it may put me out of the running for NMF.

My question arises because this old detailed deadline/schedule from 2009 from the NM website --- http://www.nationalmerit.org/Merit_R&I_Leaflet.pdf --- clearly states that (paraphrase) one should have sent his or her SAT scores by October 14. It also says that one should take the SAT in October or November if he or she has not already done so.

To sum it up, I can make a decision now and register for the June 5 SAT as a back-up in case my score this May is poor; I will only sign up for the June SAT if I cannot take it in October a second time and expect to be able to submit it after I have done my NMSF applications.

Any help is greatly appreciated! This question has been bugging me ever since the SAT date began creeping up this past week.

As long as you have a confirming score from one of your SAT exams between now and Dec and you send your score(s) to NMCorp, you’ll be find.

I don’t think the deadline for taking the SAT for NMCorp is Oct. I think it’s Dec.
