Ok, my dream college has always been UVA. However, with the current economic state I am not sure I would be able to afford it. How easy is it to transfer from NOVA to UVA. I know guarenteed admission is given to the school of science of arts, but my plan was to major in finance. Can you transfer directly from NOVA to the school of commerce?

You can transfer directly for the start of your 3rd year, but it is very difficult. As a 2nd year transfer, they told us at orientation not to get our hopes up on the Comm school. However, it’s still possible to get a BA in Economics with a concentration in Financial Econ and still do very well.

college is an investment, it may cost you now but later (if you work hard) it will pay off, I wouldn’t worry about money as much, especially at UVA, they give great fin aid

What about transfering your second year to the college of arts and science and then trying to get in the next year?

How good is the economics program at UVA?

Based on last years statistics, they accepted roughly 220 out of 500 students to the comm school, waitlisted 120 (80 of whom they accepted at the end of the school year), and reserved about 30-35 spots for transfers… I don’t know how many people try to transfer to the comm school from community college or other universities, but maybe you’ll find those statistics helpful.

As for the econ department… I have only taken two econ classes (ECON 201 and 202), so I can’t speak for the whole department. I just know it’s a very popular major and that I really enjoyed the two intro courses I took.
