We went to NPD, and a representative from an art school said that our DD is "Portfolio Approved". What does that mean? Do we need to submit portfolio again?

thanks

thanks

Generally, what that means is that should you apply to this school, you do not need to submit a portfolio for acceptance purposes. You still need all the academic info. You may need to supmit a “Scholarship portlolio” if your D is interested in applying for scholarships. In that case, you follow their requirements on the school website for submission.

It means that her portfolio met the school’s standards and so it has been preaccepted before she has even applied. This means that she does not need to submit the portfolio again during the application process, but she may need to if the school gives out scholarships based on portfolio work.

Typically, if the academic portion of her application is sound, she will be accepted by the school fully.

I would most definitely check with the school before not resubmitting the portfolio. In some cases it may not be required but you would want to submit it so you are put in the running for any scholarship or grant money available. In fact that would be true at all schools, the pre-approval only means that the portfolio has been deemed up to standards for that particular school. But by not resubmitting the CD with images you won’t be in the running for any financial awards.

And as I say, don’t go by anything but what the school actually tells you directly. Call them and ask.

Thank you all.

We were also advised to submit full portfolio by the faculty if we want to apply for scholarship. Actually our portfolio were approved twice, One is at NPD, another is at our local meeting with the school.

How great for you. Our NPD is really late this year, so my dd will probably have to apply and send her portfolio. It would be so much easier to get it approved at NPD!

phillyartmom, good luck to your DD.
