Question about NYU

I applied to NYU, and I chose the Stern school of business in the application. If I get rejected from Stern can I still get accepted into NYU itself and get placed in their default school (Arts & Sciences school), or do I have to choose the Arts & Sciences school specifically? In other words, if I get rejected from Stern, can I still get accepted into NYU?

Thanks in advance!

Nope. If you're rejected, you're rejected.

Really, how sure are you? My friend told me the opposite. I want to make sure that this is true, thanks.

I believe if you get rejected from the school you applied to, you're rejected in general.

That's why so many kids apply to CAS originally and then transfer to Stern/etc in college.

Argh, that sucks big time. I selected Stern and I thought that the former statement was true. I will call them/e-mail them (e-mail I tried already) and tell them that it was a mistake on the application. They should be able to fix it right?

Bump, anyone has had experience with NYU changing information on your application after submitting it? I should be able to change my selection by calling, right? (I tried E-Mail but they stated that they don't reply to individual E-Mails).

It's a lot harder to get into Stern than the CAS. Same goes for UPenn with Wharton and the CAS. Transferring into those schools is very tough. If you can't
get into Stern in the first place, don't count on an internal transfer because that's even more competitive. You did the right thing.

if you want to go to Stern than apply to Stern

yeah you get rejected, you're not in NYU. You can always transfer from CAS into Stern, but they look at your courseload and GPA, but all you have to do is fill out an application. I think a 3.7 and up should do the trick.

yeah definitely dont try and back door it, because odds are you wont get in through a transfer (by this i mean that a low percentage of people get in, since i dont know ur stats)

I understand what you guys are saying, but my question is whether or not it will be possible to change my selection of NYU Stern to the College of Arts and Sciences by calling and telling them it was an error...I sure hope so.

Do you want to go to Stern or the college of arts and sciences? Why did you apply to Stern in the first place? I think you could get it changed if you wanted, though. Claim it as a mistake, don't tell them the real reason you are changing.

@krazykool:

At first, I didn't know that if you were rejected from Stern that you would automatically be rejected from all schools at NYU, thus not getting accepted into the University. My friend who goes to Columbia University told me that if I got rejected from Stern that I could still get into NYU's Arts and Sciences, which is why I gave a shot at Stern.

But now I want to change it to Arts and Sciences since I know I don't have a good shot at Stern. And yeah, I will definitely claim it as a mistake, I hate making stupid mistakes like this.

if I were you I wouldn't change it. arts and sciences doesn't really do anything for me, nothing special. Stern, however, is a wall street feeder that could lead to tons of hugely successful careers in finance and consulting. best shot at big bucks on wall street(besides Harvard and Wharton, of course)

I understand that, however, I don't think I have enough credentials to get into NYU Stern.

SAT Math: 680
SAT Verbal: 620
SAT Writing: 670 (12 essay)

And my GPA is around 3.7. I have superb recommendations and an excellent essay, along with being ranked 13 out of 480+. I even added some of my digital art (I am proficient at digital art/fractals) to the application, but I don't think all of that combined is enough to get me into Stern.

thats not true- harvard and wharton are not the 2 best shots at wall street. now they are both very good shots but if u have a 3.0 at harvard i dont think that helps that much. but w/e

it doesn't matter if you have a 4.0 unweighted at University of Kansas, the recruiters don't show up there. it very much is about WHERE you go when it comes to business, only a select few undergrad business programs are trusted.

What do you think of my last post?

Do I even stand a chance at Stern?

I can see you getting into GSP before Stern, but with those scores, you really have to be a flawless applicant otherwise to get into Stern directly.

Yeah, that's what I thought so too. What is GSP by the way?
