Question about Oct 2012 SAT I scores

A lot of people at my school said their October scores were significantly lower than their previous scores. I only experienced a 10 point decrease in writing but my overall score was higher. Did anyone else get a significantly lower score or is it just my school? I'm curious.

It’s a myth that scores depend in some general fashion on the test date. The College Board has a great deal of data on the questions that it uses from test to test to keep the aggregate variation (over a large test population) from test to test very low.

For each test taker the scores should always be viewed as a “range”. The College Board suggests what that range should be. Look at your score report. On a percentage basis the range is broader for scores in the 700s because in this range 1 additional question right or wrong can move the score by 20-40 points.
