question about orientation...

i won't be able to go to orientation because i'll be out of the country all summer. but does that mean i'll get last choice when it comes to registering for classes and whatnot? and what else do i miss out on?

if anybody knows, please reply. thanks!

You will be able to do web registration...go to the usc website, scroll to the bottom, then click web registration. Try to log in with your id # and pin (birthdate) and see if it gives you your registration date.

If it doesn't, contact the office of orientation, and they should be able to give you your date.

what do you mean by date...

like will i be able to register for classes online?

thanks for replying!

yes you will be able to register online...

but not until a certain date...

and if you can login, you can find out when that date is...otherwise you will need to call and find out...because it is pointless to try to register until you know when you will be allowed to

thanks for replying!

what do i do about placement tests, though? i need to take the math one... and does web registering still mean i'll have the last pick of classes...?

thanks again.

http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/testing_bureau
for info on the testing dates. Could you take the test in May or June before you leave?

If you cannot attend an Orientation session, the "Welcome to USC" handbook says to call Orientation Programs (213) 740-7767 to request an Orientation packet and receive additional instructions.

Did you get one of those "Welcome to USC" booklets in your acceptance packet? It explains a lot of stuff.

It says that academic advisement from an academic advisor is required prior to registering for classes. So it doesn't sound like they will let you register on-line before you have done that. They also "urge you to take your placement tests before meeting with the advisor". Then you can register during open registration on August 15-19, from 8:30am-5pm.

I will be gone until July, and have concerns about going to one of the last freshman Orientations, and not getting the classes I want. An admissions person I talked to said that registering later does NOT usually mean that you will not get the classes that you want, but that you may end up with a bad schedule, meaning class times you do not prefer. If this is accurate, it is not optimal, but maybe something we just have to live with. Sorry!

anyway, hope this info helps!
