I have applied to Smith and my bones are trembling for Friday. If I do get in, which I hope I do, I would like to do an overnight visit. HOWEVER, according to the website, Smith doesn't allow overnights in April! They only allow early year visits in March and February. April is the only time I can do an overnight because A) It's my spring break B) I live all the way in California, so my schedule is limited and C) the other two east coast colleges I applied to, Bryn Mawr and Haverford, ONLY do early year overnights for accepted seniors in April. I sent an email to the admissions office asking if it is possible to do an overnight in April if I get in.

Anyway, do you know why they don't do overnights in April? Do you think it's likely I'll get an exception? If not, what do you suggest I do? The second week of April is the only time I can be there for an overnight. I'm thinking that, even if I can't do an overnight, I can still sit in on a class/lecture. I visited Smith before, but it was quick (I only had a limited period of time to visit many colleges, most of which I didn't even apply to) and I did a tour and info session.

hey good luck on friday arianneag- i just got my letter yesterday and in it there was info about open campus on a Friday in April and they, in fact, strongly encourage you to set up an overnight if you are interested.

I had thought that was odd, thanks Borgin. I was pretty sure that D had done an overnight in April. By the time she met her host for the second (for admitted students), she'd already decided that Smith was it.

If you get in, find a way to attend Open Campus, even if your school is in session then. You'll stay overnight in a dorm, attend classes that interest you, eat in the dining rooms, meet both current Smithies and those who have been accepted, and generally get a good feel for what the college is like. Although the weekend is a little like a circus, you'll get a good idea whether you'll fit in.

If you absolutely cannot make Open Campus (they announce the dates in the acceptance packet), then you can schedule an overnight for another time.

flootloop, yes, your brother can be on campus. He of course will not be able to stay overnight, but he can still come and visit Smith with you.

My little sister came for Open Campus when I visited (she was in eighth grade), and she went on a tour with my parents and went to a panel discussion with me. She thought Smith was the perfect school for me, and I'm still trying to convince her to apply next year.

I am a Gold Key Guide and haven't hosted anyone yet this semester. If you aren't able to schedule a formal overnight through the office, contact me and we can try to work something out!

Though I highly doubt there'd be a problem unless lots of other admitted students wanted the same date as arianneag and managed to call before her. We filled up the dates in April during training, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were 8 people signed up for some days. And I haven't hosted an overnight yet, either. :)

Thanks for the responses/offers! I got an email back from the admissions office saying that I can in fact overnight in April, and even offered to conditionally book a spot.

flootloop, if prom is important to you, go! Maybe you could visit Moho before Smith (the accepted students' day is nice, but you don't have to go then). But if going to prom is important to you, don't miss it just because of college visits - especially if you could visit on other days.
