My father is a Materials Manager for a small medical-device company (of about 300-400 employees). He is upper-middle management. He also graduated from SMU (Southern Methodist University) with a MBA. What is the best way to portray him on a college application?

Corporate management or, better yet, midlevel manager

Does a parent not having a job boost an app?

My dad is currently unemployed but is job-hunting. What do I put down? His old job? One of the positions he's looking for?

i second Lakers08's question, (sorry to butt in on the thread darkspym), both my parents are unemployed...

I would put down his last job, or the field that he works in. This is one of the questions that the colleges should not really be asking. I think they are just trying to get some feel for your background. Other indicators of this are the type of high school that you went to, your zipcode, and whether or not your parents attended college.

Personally, I would put down what your father did and is currently unemployed. Bury your ego. Maybe they will give you more financial aid.
