Question about Partial IGETC and more than 105 units

Hello all,
I have a bit of a complicated situation. I’m going to be applying only to UCs, either this year or next year. My major is computer science.

Question 1)If it’s this year, the only UCs I will be able to apply to are UCB and UCI because I haven’t finished the required major courses for the others. I will also be 2 courses short on IGETC from Area 3: Arts and Humanities. I’ll have exactly 90 units if I transfer this year. How do UCB and UCI handle partial IGETC? Will I just complete the 2 courses over there, and I heard UCB doesn’t accept partial IGETC, is this true? If that’s the case what would happen?

Question 2) If I apply next year I’ll have more time and will go above the major course requirements to the recommended one as well, putting me at 115.5 units, and this is with the partial IGETC short 2 courses. The maximum number of units that can be credited for transfer are 105, so while I could complete IGETC, I won’t be getting the credit for the classes anyway. If I go this route and take the extra year to transfer, should I complete the IGETC (putting me at 123.5 units) or not? How will the UCs handle the partial IGETC, will I just take those 2 classes I’m missing at the UC?

In addition to that, which situation would you all recommend? Take the extra year to complete all possible courses relating to my major, but have many overflowing units I won’t get credit for; or transfer this year, get credit for all my courses, but then possibly have to do 3 years at the UC due to the high number of courses I’d have left (and also I would for sure have the partial IGETC)

I know it’s a long read, but I’d be greatly appreciative if some of you clear this up for me.
Thanks in advance!!

Go the extra year and complete IGETC. You will get subject credit for all relevant courses over the 105, and will be signed off on IGETC - meaning you’ll get the subject credit.

What happens if IGETC isn’t complete? Would it be worth completing it even when I won’t get credit for the extra units?

Yes! Complete it. Berkeley is a stickler, as you said. It always makes you more competitive. Why in the world would you not complete it? Especially with taking another year?

If you like living on the edge than keep it partial.

Should I stay under 120 units? This website http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/uc-transfer-maximum-limitation-policy-chart.pdf
says, Junior Standing: 80-89 UC-transferrable semester units
But then in the chart below that it says Number of units before an applicant becomes a highunit
junior or a senior, and most of the UCs I want are all 90 sem/135 qtr, except Davis

They contradict themselves, so I’m not sure.
Thanks!

All your classes are from a CCC, right? Then don’t worry. They’ll cap it at 70. It says it at the top of the page you sent me.

Those max numbers are for people who are including courses from 4-years, including previous UCs, or non-California CCs. Get this “not getting credit for courses” out of your mind. You’re not applying it correctly. You WILL get subject credit, and would you rather have a couple of extra courses and get in, or leave two out because of some minor non-issue and not get in?

Yes, they’re all from a CCC. Thanks for all your advice, I appreciate it.

Only 70 units from CCs will be credited to the 120 units to graduate, but you will get subject credit for all courses passed.
