Hello, I'm thinking about going into med school but the thing is, I got my undergrad degree from outside the US (from a decent school in the Philippines) although I am a US citizen. I have a BS major in medical technology degree. I'm wondering if this will somehow complicate my chances of getting into med school, but I'm not exactly aiming for ivy league (I'm looking into VCU or UVA). Will they recognize my pre-med degree? I've got loads of chem courses to satisfy the prerequisites, some biology and physics, and english as well.

I haven't taken the MCAT yet, btw. I need to know first if my undergrad degree counts for something here.

Thanks in advance for any insights/advice.

International degrees are not accepted by US allopathic medical schools. (Because of the difficulty of translating their grades into their US equivalents and because of the difficulty in determining the rigor and content of coursework taken at non-US schools.) In fact, AMCAS does not even accept transcripts from non US or Canadian colleges or universities* (per AMCAS instructions for 2012-13). However, you are still required to list any international institutions under schools attended.

All US allopathic medical schools require that, at a minimum, applicants complete at least 2 years of college in the US and take all of their pre-reqs at an accredited US or Canadian college or university.

unless your college was an affiliated branch of an American college overseas. (These are listed on pp. 25-27 of the AMCAS Instruction Manual.)
