I recently found out that this year Maryland has a november 1st priority deadline. I also heard that if you wanted on campus housing, you more or less need to apply by this date. After briefly looking around on the umd website, it seemed to me like the ony reasons to apply by this deadline would be to be considered for any scholarships or special programs. Can somebody clear this up for me? I basically want to know how big a deal it is if I don't appply by this deadline. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

95 percent of the class is admitted by priority deadline. if you dont apply priority you are competing for 5 percent of the class.

Thanks. Does this mean then that I will not be able to live on campus? Or that I will be stuck with some low quality dorm?

What def454 means is that you may not get IN, let alone get housing. Apply priority. It’s lowering your chances of getting accepted IMMENSELY by not applying by Nov 1. Then, if you get in, confirm housing EARLY, even if you’re not sure you want to go there. They “guarantee” housing for all freshman, but the late-comers for fall semester get triples (planned or not), or otherwise being placed somewhere in a less-than-good setting (like, makeshift rooms in lounges, etc.)

I get all this. My daughter already applied. With this priority deadline (and the stat that 95% of acceptances are from this pool), when do they start telling you yif you’re in or not?

they told me around mid-late january you will be notified, i think mine will be later because i am applying to an LEP. GOOD LUCK!

Unless they are changing their policies, I think it was later when people started finding out. If you are being considered for banneker/key, you’ll know earlier. Can someone from this year chime in on when their Terp knew? I just don’t remember, it was a blur for D2!

I think we found out my DS was accepted in late December, early January. I know it was no later than January.

I have all DS’s correspondence from UMD from day one and the acceptance letter to the univeristy and Honors is dated January 29, 2009. This was with a priority deadline of December 1st and DS submitted his online app the night before. So, count on a good 8 weeks if the number of applicants is about the same.

I did go online often to see what the Checklist had checked off. I think it took about a month for all the items to be checked off. Remember that they will not officially process your application or review it for admittance without all items being checked off. Keep on top of the school to be sure they submitted what they needed to and that scores from College Board were sent as well.

For those hoping for Bannker/Key interviews: DS’s invitation to interview was dated February 17, 2009, so a little over two weeks from the date of acceptance.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the update, Jewel. Like I said, January/February of 2009 is an oh-so-distant blur to me now!

I contacted admissions…their email says letters should start going out Feb 1st…but once the letters are released you should be able to read your acceptance online…Good Luck to everyone.
