If I transfer to UCLA psychology from SMC and have completed all prerequisite classes + IGETC = 60 semester units = 90 quarter units, then I know I must complete another 60 semester units at UCLA in order to graduate.

My question is: how many of these have to be psychology classes?

I found this in the UCLA General Catalog:

Required: (1) Five core courses, with at least two from each category and a fifth course from either category: (a) Psychology 110, 115 (or M117A, M117B, and M117C), 120A, 120B, and (b) 127 or 128, 130 (or one course from 133A through 133I), 135, 150; (2) one laboratory/fieldwork course from 101, 111, 116, 121, 126, 131, 136A, 136B, 136C, 151, 186A through 186D; (3) four additional upper division elective courses (16 units) in psychology.

But that cannot be enough units? Can I choose upper division classes from other majors to reach my 90 units? And in that case, how many?

If the classes for the major don’t add up to 180 quarter units with 60 of them being upper division, then yea, you’ll need to take more units to get to it.

You are forgetting Psychology 100A and 100B which add up to 10 units.

assuming all of those 10 other classes are 4 units (although some are more), you will only have 50/60 upper division units.

It looks like 2-3 more upper division classes will be required. Then you’ll need to fill up the rest of the units for the 180 requirement. Maybe a minor in Neuroscience? Statistics? A language? You decide.

As long as the class doesn’t have restrictions and you have the prerequisites, you should be able to take it.

So in that case, 20-30 units for a minor, or if no minor - just “random” upper division classes?

I want to take upper division classes from the communications major! I have no idea if this is possible. But I really hope so. That would be AWESOME! :P
