My mom told me one of her friend's sons got his RD acceptance letter from Dartmouth in February last year. I thought naah, that's impossible. Can anybody confirm this?

i bet it was a "likely letter" which is basically them saying don't mess up and you'll get in. it's a way for them to gain an edge over other schools with students they really want to attend.

but he wasn't a recruited athlete or anything, just a normal student.

Yes, "normal" people who the college deem to be exceptional get likley letters beginning in february

neverymind, sybbie beat me to it

nice to hear

So when do they start to send these out? and what others schools do this?

i dunno, the only ivy ive really heard of doing it is dartmouth. there definitely are some other scools i just cant think of them. do a search for "likely letters" and you should find something

i think williams sends likely letters, too.

I know of one that Yale sent last year to some girl in California.
