Question about reapplying

Greetings fellow users! I just had a question about what I should do. Im in an organization that helps students get into these schools. This year the person helping me anticipated that I would be joining my brother at a school. Unfortunately, I was wait listed by every school because the person helping me assumed I would join my brother. Now here is my question, should I count on the wait list? I understand I am very far in the wait list process but I was just wondering. Also, should I reapply to this school? Thank you

Unfortunately waitlist spots almost never materialize as most schools predict and account for their yield rate correctly. If I were you, I would start researching and forming a new list of schools to apply to. You will be ahead of the curve in terms of preparation for next cycle!

If your reasoning for applying to X school is just because your brother currently attends, I would look elsewhere. There are so many wonderful schools, why limit yourself to X school?

If you have any more questions, feel free to DM. Good luck!

Did you restrict your search to a specific area of the country? If so, you might consider applying to schools in less popular regions, such as the Southeast. You may also want to check out Boarding School Review’s site where they list school’s that still have openings for the coming year.

Thank you for the response. That is not the only reason why I applied to that school. Also, what does it mean for a private school to wait list you as a legacy student? I heard that it’s basically saying you got denied but since you have family attending this school you are wait listed. Is that statement true? Thank you

Yes, I mostly applied to schools in the Boston/MA/NH area. Thanks for your comment! I will be sure to look into schools in that area.

The term “legacy waitlist” refers to when students who have past relations with a certain school get waitlisted.

@RChen006

The term “legacy waitlist” refers to a soft rejection in the form of a waitlist. When a family has ties to a certain school, to avoid conflict, the school will waitlist the applicant instead of rejecting them.
