<p>When you apply to colleges, do your teachers / counselors write one recommendation and use it for multiple applications? Like, they don't have to write a different one for each college, right? No tweakage needed?</p>

<p>Yes, they generally write one rec and copy it for all the colleges. Few will even attempt to tailor the rec for each college, unless it's a college they know very well (like their alma mater). And if they're Common App schools, they will also use the same recommendation form.</p>
<p>Our D's treachers wrote specific recommendation letters for her 2 top choices. Then they wrote a generic letter for the other applications. They did offer to write specific letters for each school but D did not think it was necessary.</p>
