Question about recommendations?

So, I did a college course at Cornell last summer, and at the end, my professor offered to write me a recommendation (to the best of my knowledge, I was the only one in the class he made this offer to). I had a couple of questions about this,

-Would this positively impact my college application at all? I'm told he's quite well respected

-Would the recommendation be in 'Teachers' or 'Others' on the CommonApp? He HAS taught me so....

It will certainly help your application at Cornell. Typically recs like this are sent only to the one particular school with which the prof has a relationship, not to all the schools where you plan to apply. He should send his rec directly to admissions and you would not invite him through the common app.
