Question about "Recommended Courses"

Hi there, I'm a chemical engineering student at a CC and I was checking out assist.org for the prerequisites that I'll have to take. As it turns out, I'll have all the requirements complete, except for the two organic chemistry classes, which are "strongly recommended." I'm not sure if these are prerequisites as well, so I just wanted to make sure.

I just wanted to know if it'll hurt me to not have these classes finished by the spring prior to transfer. If possible, I'll try to take them during the summer if a UC will let me.

I just really don't want to stay another year at a CC because of two classes.

I think the general rule is that you should take those courses if you can and they’ll make your application, but it won’t kill your chances if you don’t/can’t. I’d say apply even if you can’t take them, and hope for the best.

Don’t worry about those courses. I was accepted to ucsb missing 3/5 prerequisites and 2 recommended courses. Those courses are just that, recommended, but not required. UCSB confirmed this as well.
