Question About Recruiting

I’ve been contacted a few times by the Multicultural Recruitment Program at Yale (I’m Mexican-American), but I’m not quite sure what that signifies about my chances for acceptance. Does this contact mean that I have a fair chance of acceptance when it comes time for me to apply? Or is it just a red-herring of sorts?

It's certainly nice, but don't read too much into it. As a Mexican American you have a truly enhanced chance at Yale. If you've taken a strong course load, are in the top 20% of your class at a school that is average or better, a 1350 (old) SAT and strong recs, you have a good shot.

Well, my course load consisted this year of mostly AP's, and next year, all of my classes are AP. I'm ranked 5th in a class of 826, but I'm pretty sure I can make it to third. I know that my essay will be pretty good, because I'm a decent writer, I'm deeply involved in a few EC's, and I hope that my recs will be strong. Still, I'm terrified. Really, I'd appreciate any advice that anyone can give me, especially if you're a Yale student or alumnus.

You have an outstanding chance anywhere with what you've told us if your SATs are in line.

Ohh, sorry, I didn't post the SAT scores...I didn't do amazing, but not horrible either...but I took the new SAT. I got a 2160 total.
V. 720, M. 670 W. 770....but I still plan on retaking it, since Yale combines the highest scores from all the test dates.

wut about a chinese immigrant who live in Canada just for 3 yrs and have a strong course load, good GPA, good SAT, and fairly ok ECs????

Dualanya, don't set your heart on just Yale or any one school. In all probabiliity, you will get into a great school, but apply to several.

:) Of course! I know that the chances of acceptance into Yale, or any Ivy for that matter, are very small. I'm also looking into U of Chicago, Rice, Amherst, Williams, Duke, and Notre Dame...On that topic, Amherst and Williams have each contacted me for a Multicultural Open House....does THAT signify an increase in the probability for admittance when it comes time to apply, or am I just reading too much into it?
