Question about reporting class rank.

I go to a public, large, competitive high school that does not report class rank. The problem is, I know where I stand in relation to my grade; I'm only in the top 15% of my class (I was hoping top 10% ESPECIALLY since I'm Asian...). It's not like my grades are bad though - on a 100 scale, my GPA is 92.35 UW/98.23 W and I take some rigorous courses. (speaking of which... why the **** are people who only take accelerated and honors courses have a higher GPA and class rank... that's ****ed up.)

But anyway, do colleges have the ability to call my school and ask for my official class rank? If so, how often is it done?

I'm a junior btw.

wait, if you know your class rank, aren’t you supposed to report it. How do you have a rank if your school doesn’t even report it???

They hold the information for NJ Governor School nomination, etc, stuff like that. I don’t know why either… it’s just how they do it.

Well actually I never asked my GC, my mom did and she’s formed a good bond with her…

yeah, um , you might want to ask your GC yourself because that’s kind of weird. But if they really don’t report rank to colleges, which I’d figure that they would since they report for NJ thing, then I doubt the school is going to call. Just find out if its on your transcripts since that’s what the colleges will see

Some schools that don’t compute class rank don’t want you to either. I know a friend of mine says it’s stated in their school’s policy and procedures

Realistically, colleges are going to look at the information supplied to them on your transcript, your counselor’s recommendation form, and the school profile.

If class rank isn’t reported there, they’re going to work with what they’ve been given, because they have MOUNTAINS of data to get through in limited time.
