Question about requirements for nyu stern

Hey guys. I'm thinking about transferring to NYU Stern next fall and it says on their website that, " Applicants for transfer admission should have completed (or be in the process of completing) semester courses in the following areas: calculus I (or higher), expository writing, microeconomics, statistics, managerial accounting, and financial accounting.* The calculus course must be the equivalent of Calculus I as offered by your school’s mathematics department; courses such as business calculus, elementary calculus, and calculus for social sciences typically do not satisfy the calculus requirement for Stern transfers.

*Note: We understand that some students, especially those transferring as sophomores, may not be able to complete all of the recommended courses by the end of their freshman year. In that case, we ask that you provide an explanation in the “additional information” section of your application for the Committee on Admissions to consider when your application is reviewed."

WELL, i currently attend a university as a business major and therefore, the school enrolled me into business calculus. Also, i got a 4 on my AP Micro which allowed me to not be required to take it in my university. I am going to be taking macroeconomics though. Financial Accounting and Expository Writing are the only classes on that list that I will probably be taking.. Will this put me at a huge disadvantage? And if so, why? Why does Stern care if I took those classes when I can just take them at Stern if i successfully transfer?

I know this was a lot to read but help would be appreciated
Thanks

Because if you have taken the course equivalent at your current university, you will be exempt from taking certain Stern classes. They also want to get a sense of how far you are in your current curriculum and how much you’re interested in Stern and business in general through the classes you take. It also doesn’t hurt to just apply, the worst that can happen is you waste a couple of hours and incur the cost of the application fee.

thanks but how much do you think this will weaken/hurt my application?

No one here can tell you that. You could try calling admissions anonymously and asking.

I would also post this on the Transfer Students subforum. There are plenty of other students trying to transfer to business schools who have probably run across this exact problem.

i did call them and they said to be competitive, you must have or be in the process of completing these classes… they wont say how much it’ll hurt me but i just want other peoples opinions because this is making me worry haha

btw, i did post it on the transfer sub forum but nobody answered it…

Dont worry about the pre reqs at all
I got in w/o Fin accting and I know ppl who are doing Finaccting and Microecon here at stern.
However its a good idea to have done SOME rather than NONE. But just coz u dont have all the pre reqs dont mean ****

Well you were only missing one and i know stern really likes math so im worried that cuz i didnt take calc 1, it’ll hurt my chances…

but thank you! :)
