I've only started worrying about college for the past half-year and I'm really starting to regret it because I think I could've done a lot more in my high school career to get into top colleges and universities...anyway, I aspire to be in the field of computer science (probably at GA Tech since it's in-state, basically free, and well respected in CS)...but for grad school (I know this is in way in the future, but it's very important to think ahead), I'd love to go to Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, CMU, etc. due to their prestige and their being "the best for CS"...what I was wondering is that since they are notoriously difficult programs to get into, if doing internships and research work at THOSE universities, during summer for instance, would improve my chances and resume? As in, getting involved and closer to THOSE universities when I'm not at Tech?

It can only help - you will be getting to know professors and gain other good contacts. Not to mention, it will definitely show that you are qualified.

I noticed that even research internships at those schools seem to be very competitive

I think an internship at SNU is mandatory if you want to get into those big schools. Good luck!

Well wouldnt it be more based on recommendations by professors?
