Question about retaking 2200+

Hi all. So far, without preperation (I am a bad procrastinator, I don't know why), I've gotten these two results from the SAT I:

1st time: Math-800
Crit Reading-730
Writing-680(essay 8)

2nd time: Math-780 (I think I got one wrong...needless to say it surprised me)
Crit reading-720
Writing-690(essay 9)

Now, I am not too shocked that my scores were relatively similar because the amount of preperation (like 5 minutes) for both tests was the same. However, how much can I realistically expect to improve if I study for this test. I have a practice book, but is there any other alternative than actually doing the tests for hours upon end(especially for writing)? How much time would I have to put in for a 2300+ superscore? And how important is it for the top schools?

A confused person.

You pretty much answered your own question.

Study. Don’t procrastinate if you think that’s what is keeping you away from a 2300. Don’t try to look for the easy way out. Study over the summer (yes, hours upon end) and you’ll probly break a 2300.

Review simple grammar rules. Like…all of them. The writing section should be the easiest to improve on. You can easily get 800, especially with your essays at a ~9-ish level.

Barron’s 2400 SAT book works wonders. I went from a 700 to an 800 on the writing section because of it (10 essay, 80/80 mc). They lay everything out for you and tell you everything you need to look for in those writing questions.
