Question About SAT & ACT...

I have taken each test once and received a 1970 on the SAT and a 30 on the ACT. I plan on retaking both in the fall so I can try to raise my scores. I plan on applying to mostly UC's so sending all scores is required. I'm mostly targeting UCLA, UC Davis, and UCSD but I will apply to Cal. If I were to score a 32-34 on the ACT, is it still necessary for me to retake the SAT? My CR score is not very strong (590) so I'm worried about that hurting me even if I do well on the ACT. Any advice??

I don’t think that it will hurt you because most colleges will take your highest scores, whether it be SAT or ACT. If you prepare a lot for the ACT and score high, your SAT scores shouldn’t matter.

The UCs accept either SAT or ACT and when multiple test scores are submitted they use for admission that test with the highest composite score. The UCs convert the ACT and SAT tests to a UC score, see http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/california-residents/admissions-index/index.html</a>, and thus to determine whether your test score in one is better than the other see the applicable conversion charts. Thus, if you score 32 to 34 on the September ACT, you can choose not to take the October SAT.

You can also not report the SAT score to UC, unless you are taking Subject Tests. UC is not going to make you pay extra money to send them scores.
