Question about SAT Subject Tests

Hi,

I have taken like 7 or 8 different SAT Subject Tests in 7 or 8 different subjects. This is because I did not do as well as I would have liked to on any of them so I just kept taking more and more. For example, in 10th grade I took the Chemistry and got a 520. I do not intend on sending that in. I will be retaking Biology and Math 2 in November and hopefully I will be able to break 700 on them.

I have a question about what I am required to send to Duke. Do I need to send in EVERY single Subject Test I have ever taken for all 8 subjects, or do I just need to send in both times that I've taken Biology and Math 2? I know this may seem like a silly question because I know about Score Choice, but the Duke website's wording is what confuses me.

On the Application Instructions page, it says the following:

"We will always consider your highest score regardless of test type or test date, and you are welcome to send us SAT scores, ACT scores or both. You must send your full record of scores for whichever test type(s) you choose to report."

OK, it seems like I can just send in Biology and Math 2 and send in the results from both testing dates. But then on the Checklists and Deadlines page, it says the following:

"January 1 (Duke requires all test scores. Students should submit any existing test scores by this date, and we will consider additional testing taken after the deadline but before decisions are made. The latest date for additional testing is January 24 for the SAT and Subject Tests and February 7 for the ACT.)"

This makes it seem like I must submit any test score that exists in my name. Is this really the case or can I just choose the ones I want to send?

I know on the College Board website I can check off which tests to send to which schools, so I don't really see how Duke would even know if I ever took the Chemistry and got a 520 if I don't send it to them.

Thanks for the help.

If you’re sending any SAT scores, you must send them all.

Sorry, I am still confused as to the wording. It says for whichever TEST TYPES I CHOOSE to report.

Does this simply mean that if I choose to report Math 2 and Biology, then I must report ALL scores for Math 2 and Biology? As in if I took Biology twice, I must send in the scores from both test dates.

Or does it mean that if I choose to send ANY subject tests at all, I must send EVERY subject test I have ever taken for any subject? As in all 8?

@bl1997:

“All candidates for admission must complete one of the following standardized testing options: the test of the ACT, including the writing exam or the College Board SAT, plus two SAT Subject Tests. Duke requires that students send their full testing record for either the ACT or SAT and SAT Subject exams taken in high school.”

READ Duke’s highly specific directions, quoted above (<a href=“Apply - Duke Undergraduate Admissions”>Apply - Duke Undergraduate Admissions). They are unambiguous and they clearly indicate:
a) all SAT results, or
b) all ACT results (including writing)
c) for all exams taken during high school

What could be more understandable than “Duke requires that students send their full testing record for either the ACT or the SAT and SAT Subject exams taken in high school.”? I suggest the foregoing directions – which are current, copied today from Undergraduate Admissions’ website – supersede any other instructions.

OP, call the admissions office. They are well aware of the different ways students interpret the wording, and they can tell you what they actually require in day to day practice. The website wording then becomes irrelevant for your purposes.
