Question about SAT's and transferring

If you are applying as a transfer applicant after your freshman year in college, can you retake the SAT's if they are low or do you have to send in your scores from college?
Thanks!

anyone???

please, i really need to know!

The college board will let you take the SAT anytime. However, colleges can see the dates you took the SAT.

I know that, but what I’m saying is that would it count against someone if they took them their freshman year of college if they were contemplating transferring?

Depends. Some schools do not allow for SAT retakes. However, you could always use score choice.

thank you! do you know which schools dont allow applicants to retake the SAT after high school? I’m guessing its mostly ivy league schools, right?

Correct. Usually they’ll state it under their requirements. It’ll probably say SAT/ACT scores required. If you have taken them, there is no need for retakes. However, if you have not please make arrangements to do so.

Like I previously mentioned you can use score choice. From what I heard there is no difference. Meaning the schools do not knoa you have used the service. Additionally, the University cannot request your scores because you have to give permission to release the scores.

Call Collegeboard see what they say.

Thank you so much! Do you think if I took them towards the end of my senior year in high school that I could send those scores? Like if I studied a lot over the holiday break and took them in January, could I send those?

Yes. But as I previously mentioned you would have to see if your prospective school(s) allows for retakes. For example take NYU.

They state you should not retake the tests if you have already done during HS. However, if you feel your score is not to par and want to retake it and then you could. You will have to use score choice to hide the other scores making it appear as if the last test date was your only one.

This is a personal choice. I’m sure some would say this is cheating the system. I’m not condoning anything, I’m just giving you the options. Ultimately, it is your decision.

yea, i guess i’ll see how it goes lol. but thanks for all of your help!

OP, think long and hard before you take advice about using Score Choice for a college requires ALL SAT scores. While this member “heard there is no difference”, if you get caught it will be YOU who deals with the consequences, not them.

Dont worry, its something i would never actually consider doing!
