Was told my another student from my high school that will be attending tOSU that we must meet with an adviser, separate from our orientation date. I thought that we scheduled our classes during Orientation?

That’s what I thought too … my son is planning to show up at orientation with a rough schedule. (And I am hoping he doesn’t pull it together at the airport and literally “wing” it")

Freshman meet with their adviser during orientation. At this meeting they make a plan for classes and then the student will go to a computer and actually pick the classes and register. You will leave orientation with a schedule. After returning home he changed things around a few times to get better times etc. Scheduling is the hardest thing about Ohio State.

What 3anddone described is a very typical process. Honors students will schedule a little differently, but I have never heard of a student needing to meet an advisor completely separate from orientation. (Its worth noting that orientation is two days and the student meets with the advisor the second day, so its technically the day after orientation.)

The only thing mentioned that I disagree with is changing the schedule around after you get home. The schedules are locked and you must go through an advisor to make changes for incoming freshman. Beginning with the second semester you can make your own changes.

Imagine kids undoing everything they had been advised to take during orientation - what a mess!
