Question about Scholarships for out of state student

Hey guys,

I was accepted to U-of-O several weeks ago, and just got my financial aid award in the mail a couple of days ago. On it, they awarded me the money from filling out the FAFSA (Federal Pell Grant), and the rest was stuff about work-study, Subsidized Loans, Family Loans, etc. Absolutely nothing about scholarships of any sort.

Does this mean that I received NO money, other than federal aid? I was under the impression that I was a very good student and applicant (my admissions adviser talked with the heads of admission directly so that they could sweep some of the requirements for admission under the rug). Confused, because without scholarships or some kind of aid, I probably won’t be able to pay the exorbitant amount of education, or will at least graduate with a significant amount of student loans.

I believe I cover the requirements for Apex and Summit, and figured I could at least receive one of these awards. Knowing I had a significant chance of receiving those was a large part of the reason why I applied to Oregon in the first place!

Anyhooooo, anybody know any information about this?

No but I am in the exact same situation and was sure I would receive at least some type of scholarship.

My son is also from out-of-state and did not receive any scholarships or grants from the University of Oregon. He was offered $5,500 in subsidized and unsubsidized loans from the federal government. The federal loan amount increases to $6,500 for the sophomore year and $7,500 for the junior and senior years for a total of $27,000 over four years. Given that the cost of attendance at Oregon for out-of-state students is approximately $48,000 per year ($192,000 for four years), students will need to come up with an additional $165,000 (4 years) or $213,000 (5 years) to pay for the education at the school.
