I submitted my app to Mich ~3 weeks ago, and I was wondering if there is anything special we have to do to be considered for merit-based scholarships. I didn't apply for financial aid, and I don't really need any, but I've known other top students who received different scholarships for Mich. If I want to be considered for non-need/merit based scholarships ( not including the ones that require separate applications ), is there anything I have to do ( such as send a CSS form or anything else )

Nothing to be done. They evaluate your application for scholarships once you’ve been admitted.

He doesn’t have to fill out the FA applications to be considered? I thought you did.

Nope. 10char

There are some specific scholarships that look at need, and he’d need the FA app for those. But since he said he doesn’t need the aid, he probably wouldn’t get those anyway.

The general engineering/lsa entrance scholarships don’t require a FA app. Pretty sure Shipman doesn’t either…

The merit scholarships including Shipman are based on the application and don’t require any financial data. There are some merit/need-based hybrids that require financial need, then of course you would need to be needy to get them, and would have to fill out the need-based aid forms. My kids both got merit awards and we have never provided any financial aid forms.

Scholarships are a B to get, need a crazy ACT score, be IS, or have crazy need

^I doubt they differentiate between in-state and out-of-state for merit scholarships…

There are (a small few) scholarships that are endowment based where the donor has restricted it to MI residents (occasionally those from certain areas/HS) only.

^Ya I meant those and some need based ones, my bad
