<p>Son is looking at Baylor (he's actually there right now.) Their stats baffle me. Their 50th %ile CR is 540-650 and Math 560-660. The percentage of students selected, however, is only 46%. Since their SAT bar is not super high, does that mean that they get a whole lot of applicants that are below that bar? Or do they get so many applicants but make their selection based on things other than GPA and test scores?</p>

<p>There are a number of schools that fall into this category. The reason for the high selectivity is that the school does appeal strongly to kids in that SAT range. As a result, they have more kids than they can accept, but their qualifications tend to cluster around a lower midpoint than another school with the same selectivity that appeals to kids in the upper ranges.
