Question about SEAS transfer.. (1 min)

I came to NYU Stern believing that I would be happy divulging myself straight into the financial industry, but after going through a semester here, I realized that business wasn't it for me. Anyhow, I want to switch my career course from finance to mathematics/engineering. I've searched through both Columbia College and SEAS, and came to a conclusion that I preferred the Applied Mathematics major in SEAS.

However one problem:

I've not taken much physics/science/engineering courses while at NYU. By the end of freshmen year, I would have taken the equivalent of one environmental chemistry class, Calculus 1 + 2, two writing classes, one philosophical (english liberal arts) class, Microeconomics and Statistics (w/ Calc pre-requisite). Do you think not having taken physics in college and high school would have a detrimental effect on my transfer app to SEAS?

Although I’ve taken only Calculus 1 and 2 in college, I have a 2200+ on my SATs with a 770 score on the Math II section. Furthermore my college GPA would be in the mid-3.8s. Does Columbia SEAS prefer transfer apps from applicants who were formerly on engineering tracks or are they also understanding to “career switchers” in the sense of turning from business to engineering/maths? Do you think perhaps it’s better that I just apply to Columbia College’s Mathematics department instead?

*PS. I am a freshmen

If what you want to do is applied math then send in your transfer application to SEAS and see what happens. I hadn’t taken physics in high school and it wasn’t an issue. I think they are especially lenient with people who do not want to do a physics-heavy curriculum which includes applied math (i think a semester of physics and a semester of physics lab is all that’s required). You’re numbers look strong, just write a good application and hope for the best. Good luck!
