Is it OK to mail in copies of recommendations you've gotten from an extra curricular activity (these are outstanding recs)? I have one from a volunteer position that I was given last spring and two from the summer before when I studied in Spain and they are from the teachers I had there. I can't really ask them to send originals to the schools at this point. But these recs are definitely outside of the usual recommendations so I feel it would help my application.

I’d check with your college. Why could you not ask them to send originals? (You could mail them a Xerox of your copy, in case you are worried that they did not save the letter). I have heard that some colleges pay little to no attention to any rec letter that is not either sent electroncially by the teacher or clearly sent in a confidential fashion by the teacher via snail mail (ie where the teacher seals the envelope and writes his/her initials over the seal–and don’t even think of doing that yourself–it would be wrong, unethical, and could get you in a ton of trouble if the college found out).
