I am wondering if you need to send in 2010 Student and Parent Tax forms to colleges in order to get financial aid info? Is the Profile CSS and FAFSA enough? I know Tulane said that I do not need to submit the tax forms until I decide to enroll. I am unsure if all colleges are like this? My problem is, my parents are self-employed and typically do not file till mid March.

You need to check EACH college’s website. That will tell you which schools require signed tax returns AND the deadlines if they do have this requirement. This varies by school so check EACH of your schools.

Your parents really should do the best they can to meet your deadlines. If there is a GOOD reason for not being able to adhere to the deadlines, you need to contact the schools to explain why you cannot send things ON TIME. Ask them what to do.

I don’t want to sound rough…but these deadlines have been posted on the school websites since AT LEAST October. AND the deadlines for the previous years were on there also…giving most everyone ample time to plan to file their taxes on the early side this year if need be.

Also remember, the numbers on your Profile and FAFSA right now are estimates. Your actual aid will not be awarded until you have amended the FAFSA and Profile to reflect the numbers from your 2010 tax return. And YES…your financial aid award could change.

Your CSS Profile acknowlegment also tells what to do for each college on the Additional Requirements column. For example some college may have Requirement letter H, some may have letter I,…

The CSS Profile was not exactly correct for all my S’s schools compared to what the schools had listed on their own websites. I would say, check each school’s website carefully. That’s the best way to find out exactly what each school requires, and when they need it by.
