Question about sending test scores

For the colleges I'm applying to, I have not sent in any applications. I have, however, had my high school transcripts and some recommendations sent. Receipt of these materials has been confirmed by most, but some schools cannot yet verify that they have received materials from transfer applicants until January.

I want to send my test scores now just to get it over with. I'm trying to do everything in advance so I can correct any mistakes that may occur with time to spare. I'm still a bit confused, though, about the filing system at colleges. If I send test scores to a school and they have not created a file for me yet b/c they haven't received an application, will they just 'throw them away,' or do they put the scores aside and wait for my application? Are test scores (ACT/SAT) sent electronically or by mail? If schools say they've received my recs and HS transcripts, does that mean they've officially created a file for me as an applicant? I don't want to waste money by having test scores sent and then having to send them again because the school didn't keep them...but I do want to go ahead and send them if possible so I can check it off my list, as I have plenty of other stuff to keep up with.

I think they'll create a file for you when they get the test scores, but I'd also like to hear what other people have to say.

They create a file for you if they receive materials before your application is received.

thx will go ahead then.
