Does playing sports in high school really impress colleges that much, or is it considered just another EC? Thanks.

If you are nationally recognized, yes it counts for A LOT. If you have a leadership in the sport, it counts a bit less, but is still something you should put down. If you are a dedicated member, it does show commitment, but not as great as having a leadership position, or being recognized. If you were on the team for only a year, I wouldn’t bother even putting it down (like when I was on track for only one semester).

If you can win some awards, it can be a positive aspect to your application. If you can be recruited, even more so.

sports are considered more than just another EC because they require a nearly daily commitment of hard physical work.

I wasn’t nationally ranked for football or anything, but not many 4-year linemen apply for top schools, so I’m sure that playing football made me a rather interesting candidate.
