Question about Spring 2007 grades

I'm currently in my last semester at a community college and I'll be transferring to one of the UCs. My question is this: how important are my spring 2007 grades in terms of future employment or graduate school admissions? Will my grades at my community college affect my transcript/gpa at my new UC school?
I am not asking whether my grades will affect my chances of being accepted as a transfer student to the UCs

no it wont, just enjoy your last semester. As long as you get a 3.0, you are fine!

When you are getting employed, the employer's going to ask for your transcripts. If you only submit the UC transcript, he/she will probably wonder "hmm looks like you've only attended the UC for your Junior and Senior year. What happened to your 1st and 2nd year of college?" and demand your cc transcripts anyway. and this is most likely happen when you are applying for an internship.

If you are applying for any decent summer internship position, you'll have to start applying starting November of prior year, which will be your junior year. And guess what? You won't even have any of your UC grades out by then (I believe UC's 1st quarter ends on December). So when you apply to the internship, the only grade you'll show them are the grades you got at cc.

So all in all, do your best ALL TIME.

If I were to apply for a job or internship, do my grades in all my classes matter or just my grades in my major-related classes?

all classes

most employers dont ask for transcripts.... just a sufficient gpa on your resume is enough....

^yeah I have never been asked for transcripts. I guess if you don't really have a resume yet they may want to see it though

well I dunno.
When I think job, I usually think of either IBanking or Consulting cuz those are the area I want to get into, and according to a sample of people who has been interviewed by those firms, the employers most certainly ask for the transcripts.

But eh... Ibanking and Consulting are literally the two hardest area to break into for internship/employment position, so they may be more strict about the whole process. Other fields.. I'm no expert :)

well if I were to get apply for an internship in the sciences in the future, will my grades this semester matter that much?

probably not

so I guess everyone's agreed that my spring grades won't matter much?

am I right?

yes, they dont matter! lol just get a 3.0 and u are ok!

Newton, you are incorrect.
Spring grades at CC do matter IF the courses you are getting grades for are UC Transferrable courses, because the grades you get in those courses will build up once you transfer over to a UC.

So basically, if you've been getting a 4.0 all semester, and decide to get loose and get a 3.0 in your last spring semester at cc and your cum. GPA ends up being something like 3.7, then you will start your UC with a 3.7 and your GPA will build up from there.

I mean, cmon. The grades you get in CCC don't just get erased once you transfer over. They build up. And when you apply to internship, the recruiters DO see those.

If transferring is your ONLY goal, then sure, you are ok with a 3.0 gpa. But if you care about your gpa in the future, get a 4.0 in your last semester at cc. It's just like high school. Let's say you spent your freshman year in a high school, and then you move and attend another high school for your soph, junior, and senior year. This doesn't mean your freshman year grades will be completely pardoned. Your GPA will factor in ALL the grades you got in 4 years of high school, regardless which school you went.

I thought most schools start your gpa over when you transfer.

Nope. 10char.

I understand that your gpa at your previous school will always stay with you but I am pretty sure once you get to your new school your gpa starts over. For example if you have a 4.0 at cc you would not start with a 4.0 at UCB. However if someone requested all your transcripts then they would see that you had a 4.0 at cc. I will have to find where I saw that info.

dhl3 is wrong, your grades start over @ a UC. Yes, they are erased! Ask anyone who goes to a CC over the summer from a UC, and ask them if their grade transfered over, they will tell u no ;). For any school in the country, when you transfer, your gpa ALWAYS starts over @ the new school.

gpa doesn't carry over... quite sure about this.

they dont matter that much in terms of admissions

but they matter in the long term.
