I am currently an Illinois resident and am considering going to an out of state undergrad school and coming back to Illinois for University of Illinois College of Medicine. I noticed a huge ($30k) difference in in state and out of state tuition for them and I definitely don't want to have to pay more for med school than I need to. My question is if I go off to college in another state and then wish to come back, will I still be considered in state?

As long as you’re a dependent, residency is based on your parents legal residence. If they’re still living in Illinois when you come back, I think you’re good. Someone else can chime in if there’s something specific to that state.
