Seven nights, I'm going to go with you on this one. Richard, if you have uncomfortable feelings, it's probably because your conscience is telling you that this is the wrong thing to do. I know everyone wants every possible advantage when it comes to admission and that Hispanic can mean Spanish in the dictionary. Also, you don't want to live with the "what if I had put Hispanic". However, you will have to live with the fact that maybe you didn't get in on your own merit and that you cheated someone else. You are who you think you are. If you've never thought of yourself as being Hispanic and are only doing it for admissions and will never in the future think of yourself as being Hispanic, it's creative response and it's ethically inappropriate. However, it is not my decision. It's up to you. I hope that whatever decision you make makes you happy and leaves you with no regrets or guilt. Good luck.

leave it blank. and keep them guessing.

however, if you are race, don't be a white race traitor. be proud of belonging to such a prized race.

in reality, we are all multi cultural. no one is really "pure" as everyone has come from different places overtime.

i would leave it blank. if they come and ask you, call them racist and then file a complaint with the ACLU.

i read about this in TIME somewhere.

prized race, huh? borderline racist

but not worse than denying your feelings about your own ethnicity for the sake of admissions. yale isn't worth it, no school is. love who you are and work with it.

touching speech, haos..but it's not really a big deal. this isn't braveheart or gladiator, he's just trying to get into yale. does it matter how you get in? should affluent blacks be guilty about affirmative action? swallow that noble bs. you can't wait for things in life, you have to take them, and from other people if necessary. when he has earned a degree from yale and is experiencing prosperity years from now, i don't think he'll wake up in cold sweats over putting that he was hispanic on his college application.

Yeah, definitely file a complaint with the ACLU. That'll get you into Yale for sure....

a degree from yale is no guarantee of prosperity, and you stated it perfectly: he's just trying to get into yale. though i agree that we should take things and from other people, taking the opportunity to essentially lie on an application is no guarantee that he's taking the opportunity to go to yale. we don't know anything else about him. we should just stop. this is an endless debate over someone who may or may not exist. quite frankly, i already said i wish him the best whatever he does. and you too ivyleaguechamp. were you the one with the girlfriend or something like that? anyway, i hope these next few months go smoothly for everyone, hispanic or not.

whatever..and wtf difference does it matter who i am, man?

well, if it were you, i hope everything works out for you. are you that unused to people being nice? i think everyone here should be friendly and supportive. i don't know you but if you have a concern in your life, i'd certainly want it to work out positively for you.

you're soft

Update: I asked my father what to do and he said "we are hispanic" and I also asked my sister who went through the whole process and she told me "don't be ****ing stupid, just put it." My mom, after listening to why I have reservations, said she would probably tell me to put Hispanic, but to talk to my guidance counselor about it if I feel uneasy.

Apparently I'm missing something. The concensus within my family is we are quite Hispanic indeed.

thanks :) though I'm not too sure if it was a condemnation or a compliment. I mean it and I really care. So even if you think I'm foolish or naive, if you ever have a problem and need a nameless face to just vent to, I'm here. And I'd love going to the same school as you, or with anyone here for that matter.

then good for you richard. i'm glad it worked out into a winwin situation.

yea that haosquared kid is soft, just put hispanic down

borderline racist? hope. im just making a statement to leave it blank. if you need your race to get you in, then you got problems... sorry.

btw, what group of people founded the best colleges? whites, and thus, they shouldn't use affirmative action.

it's a good school, they reject most of qualified applicants. i'd say to use anything you can to get in. this isn't a game, it's the next four years his life. so you bend the rules a bit, that's nothing..

well, arguably because they were the ones in power at the time. there was a great deal less diversity centuries ago.

"they shouldn't use affirmative action."
To a point, to a point. It is obvious that hispanics and blacks GENERALLY are less affluent and have fewer opportunities than their white counterparts, thus putting them at a disadvantage when it comes to admissions. Less money for all those expensive SAT books and classes, less time at home to spend on homework, less educated parents - primarily fewer opportunities to excel. Of course, there are exceptions to every generalization, so there's no need to argue that point. Personally, I think any affirmative action should be based on family income, not solely on race.

maybe hispanics and blacks just aren't as smart?

c'mon, they have the same chances.

Saying that certain races are intellectually inferior doesn't help out your case, only proves your ignorance. Please keep your racist comments off this board.
