I have my actual application done (as well as my writing supplement), and I am ready to submit. However, the transcript has not been sent and the letters of recommendation have not been uploaded through Naviance. If I submit my application and writing supplement, will the teachers and councilors be able to upload recommendations, transcripts, etc. or will Common App be completely closed off? Should I wait to submit until all of the recommendations are uploaded and shown in Common App?

Do not wait- You can submit now. Teachers and counselors load their documents separately via Naviance. Their ability to load after you have indicated your colleges that “I am applying to” has no effect on your ability to submit your common application. In fact many colleges give teachers/counselors a later deadline for doing their part and the student an earlier deadlline. E.g. some colleges are requiring students to submit by Oct. 15 but teachers have until Nov. 1.

Good luck.

Exactly. You don’t need to wait for the recommendation and transcript to submit your application. Particularly with all the issues at CommonApp, you better submit your applications as soon as possible. In addition, once the school has downloaded your app and entered into their database, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from them with link to tracker and login ID etc so you can track your application.

My son is finished with his EA, ED and few RD applications. All are complete however, all day he has not been able to get past the “pdf generation in progress, please be patient” pop-up. I updated all our browsers, updated Adobe Reader, unblocked cookies/pop-ups, etc AND I tried on 3 different browsers on a Mac OS and Windows 7.

Do you have any suggestions? We are all at the end of our rope here!
Thank you

Thanks all. Your responses have been very helpful.

sunnyone, everybody is having that problem. All you can really do is wait and hope you get lucky.

Agree with angryBob. We are experiencing the same.

Really?

Did you just keep trying (like buying concert tickets online) until the server acknowledged the attempt? What did you do Angrybob1011?

Did you do what Itsv suggested a while ago, deleting all colleges on the dashboard and start with the simplest application? Then adding one at at time as completed?

Itsv - do you still suggest deleting all the colleges from the dashboard and then starting with the simplest application with just a few questions/no writing supplement? And when that goes through, then add/ submit them one at a time?

sunnyone, I got extremely lucky. I clicked the preview and submit button, went to watch an episode of The Big Bang Theory, came back and it was successfully loaded. I did this on google chrome. Before that, I tried many times, opening and closing the tab.

Ok … that is just being very, very patient! Sounds like you did not sit around and watch the “please be patient” wheel go round and round!

So, did you just have one college on your S/D’s dashboard?

I have four colleges on my dashboard, so I don’t think the number of colleges is the issue. It’s really just patience and luck (I just submitted my writing supplement and it took less than a minute to load.)
I know how you feel about that wheel! Oh man, does watching that drive me nuts!
Hope everything is successful for you!

I think this will all be resolved when the government shutdown is over. Or when the Giants start winning. Or when Snickers bars make you lose weight. Scientific facts.

I submitted on application on Thursday, the preview was slow (maybe three minutes), but not like this. It turned out to be important to see the preview because I encountered the problem where the footer overprinted part of my application, and I had to go back and make changes, then re-do the pre-view. . . Wish I had been ready to submit application 2 on Thursday! This is nerve wracking
