Question about supplemental essays!

What work of art, music, science, mathematics, or literature has surprised, unsettled, or challenged you, and in what way?

when they ask for a work of art, music, science, mathematics, or literature; are they asking for a SPECIFIC one? Like say song #23 by Mozart or something like the Mona Lisa! Just examples! (haha)

OR do you all think it would be acceptable to state a genre as my topic? Like say for example, rock. I would talk about how rock has influenced me, how i perceive the world because of it, etc. (Note: this is not what i'm doing, i haven't chosen a topic yet, just putting out ideas).

Thanks!

I’m writing about Michael Jackson’s “Beat it”

And to be honest, I think the deans want you to interpret this question however you like.

The question is broad for a reason. It should work for many different sorts of students.

Just don’t say math was hard and challenging. [That’s trite](Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: The Essay Topic).

That is a good link Dean J.

Alright, thanks you two! I think i have an idea of what i’m going to write about now! The link definitely helped! I’m just going to ignore all my worries and just write something that is unique to me. :)

@Dean J: Would a theatrical performance be acceptable?

Any thing is acceptable college4three, if your searching to hard for the idea then your lying to yourself. Write about something that has truly had an influence on you.
