Question About Supplemental Recs...

I'm going to have a total of three teacher recommendations in addition to my counselor recommendation. The two required ones are from my AP Chemistry teacher and my AP US History teacher. I earned As in both classes, and I thought it would be good to show that I'm well-rounded, even though I'm applying to engineering schools. My supplemental recommendation will be from my Yearbook adviser. I think she's a good choice because I've been on the yearbook staff for three years and have made my way up to editor this year. Anyway, how would I turn in the supplemental recommendation? Are there any CommonApp forms? Would she just have to mail it in an envelope? How would the universities/colleges know who it's for without reading it? I don't want it to get misplaced or anything.

BUMP! 10char

Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what schools specifically? the policies on supplemental recs vary a lot by school.

UPenn and some other Ivies. For now UPenn, cause I'm doing ED there.

Hmmm, to be honest I'm not sure on that. If you're applying using the common app, print out an extra rec form from there. My assumption would be to give whoever is writing your rec a pre-addressed stamped envelope, and on the top of the rec form (above your name and whatever else) include all the extra identifying information you can. You know, like SSN if it's not already on there, and your application id number if you have one.

Sorry I don't have a definite answer!

Well they only give two? So, it would be weird to have two of rec form 2. Or should she just write on the rec form supplemental recommendation.

The thing is the CommonApp one says it should be from an academic teacher. Yearbook is not an academic course, but a club-class. Would it just be better to go with just a free-form letter and have the teacher just enclose sort of alike an invoice or something for who its for and such?

I'm sure either way is fine. A rec form is a rec form is a rec form :) I have faith that the Adcoms are smart enough to figure it out.

im also sending in a 3rd recommendation

tux08902, which method are you using? the common app form, or the free-form letter?
