The major I am applying for is not impacted, Biochemistry. IGETC will be completed by Spring. I also completed a year of O Chem, General Chem, Calculus, and Biology.

My GPA has risen this semester from a 2.72 to a 2.94 (assist) and 2.95 (non-assist), what are the chances that my TAG will still be qualified for UCSD? I got 3 A's and a C in the 2nd O Chem course this semester (messed up on my final =3). This semester has been my best in GPA (3.5) and I have been having an upward GPA trend (Last semester had a 3.1). My GPA was very low at the beginning of college (2.1) and I managed to make it almost a 3 after this semester. Give me your honest opinion, but please don't be to harsh :) thank you.
Also if my TAG is not accepted what are the chances of me getting into any UC's without TAG (not UCM, UCB, or UCLA [I applied to everything else]).

Worked part-time for most of the time during college

Volunteered 100+ hours at a hospital (still do at 4 hrs/per week)

Received a scholarship in high school (for most improved GPA)

had a very good personal statement (not that they even read it anyways)

If no one thinks I have a chance in a UC, I applied to four cal states as back up (SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, and CSULB) will I have a good chance in any of these schools (I know this is a UC Transfer forum, but this segment holds a conditional part to my questions)

I’m curious - why are you trying to complete IGETC? Aren’t science majors not asked to complete IGETC? And from what I’ve seen, UC’s aren’t usually lenient when it comes to GPA, especially on TAG. People have been denied admission over having a GPA just 0.01 too low.

On a more positive note, it should help that your GPA is going up…you have a chance at regular admission. I’m pretty sure you’re in at CSULB and UCR but I’m not sure about Pomona or SLO because I think they have high standards for science majors.

I have a 2.96 UC GPA and my TAG has been approved by all the school so far. I’m sure i will be receiving above a 3.0 UC gpa after this fall.

I dont think UCSD has denied anyone yet because they are waiting for Fall grades so u still have a chance if u can raise it to a solid 3.0. Not sure if UCI denied anyone. I got approved and i currently have a 2.96 for UCI TAG

Minily, IGETC completion is a TAG requirement and I heard that it is good as a GE outline as thats why you go to CC to get your general ed requirements finished.

Pianocat, the 3 A’s and C were this semesters (Fall 2010) grade. But to be honest I have not received a C yet in Organic Chem yet because my final is this Monday. I have to get a 83-86% on my test to get a B, I am studying as much as I can for it because if I get a B my gpa will be above 3. I just said C just in case, because that is the most probable since I tend to make stupid mistakes on my O chem test.

Also Pianocat, [UCSD, UCSB, and UCI] have not accepted or declined anyone’s TAG yet unless you were really underqualified (like having a 2.5 GPA). All other UC’s let you know if you got accepted or not.

I guess then my only hope to get into UCSD is to get a B on my final leading me to get a B in my O Chem class giving me a 3.01 gpa. This assuring my acceptance to UCSD with a 3.01 GPA and as long as I maintain above a 3 for next semester.

What is ridiculous is that I wish I took my easy elective courses (art, humanities, social and behavior sciences) in the previous semesters rather than next semester would have boosted my GPA a lot.

^ thats funny how you mention that last part because thats what i’m doing this semester. I already finished my IGETC and i just took 2 elective courses i don’t need but are UC transferable, so it would provide a cushion if i do end up getting a C for my Bio class.

yeah unfortunately I am about to have a heart attack because I am so scared of not having my TAG fulfilled meaning that I will downgrade severely from a prestigious school such as UCSD to a school like CSULB (although it isn’t that bad, I have been dreaming and thinking about going to UCSD for the last year, but due to my counselors misleading me and my slow adjustment to college, ill be screwed out of it). I wish that I applied as an easier non-science major (such as political science) and than switched.

Anyways any other opinions on my chances to any said school? I was really hoping to have a good chance at least for UCSC and UCR. But if not what are my chances for SDSU?
