I am a junior. Should I take my SAT for the first time in June (already got a 33 ACT). I haven't started studying yet and my finals are going to be hard and will be one week before the June test. Or should I take my SAT 2s in June and wait to take the SAT until October. I also may be a NMSF if that makes a difference.

Well, it depends. Why do you need to take the SAT? Are you happy with your your 33 ACT (and why wouldn’t you be)? Re the SAT IIs, how many do you plan to take? In general, I would say take one or two in June. Are you planning on applying early anywhere or RD everywhere? That affects when you might decide to take your tests.

most colleges will accept your ACT score so there isn’t a need for the SAT. if you already have colleges in mind that you want to attend, contact those college’s admissions office and ask if they require the SAT even though you have a strong ACT score.a 33 is typically 98-99th percentile

The only reason I’d take the SAT is for National Merit or if you know that you can get a 2300+ without studying.

I was in a similar situation, except without the national merit considerations. I got a 35 on the ACT, which is virtually the same percentile as your 33, and I didn’t think I could get above a 2200 without studying because my vocab stinks. So I just stuck with my ACT scores, because no top college to my knowledge requires the SAT provided you have the ACT WITH WRITING. I only got rejected at 2 places, and I highly doubt that was because I didn’t take the SAT.

The SAT II’s depend on what you are taking them in. Math and English would be fine to take in October, but if you say just had a US History or Bio class and want to take those tests I would take them in June before I forgot some material.

My recommendation: take the SAT IIs in June and study during that one week. If you really want NM, and think you can get above a 2300 with studying, then take the SAT in October and study before that. But your ACT score, in terms of applying to colleges, should suffice.

I already took the US History subject test. I need to take Math (probably 2). I need to take the SAT if I will be a NMSF. I think I could probably get around a 2200 if I studied really hard. But if I decide to go to UVA then I need to take a language SAT 2 to get out of their language requirement. So, when is the last date you can take the SAT to be considered for NMS?

You can take the SAT to confirm your PSAT score (for National Merit purposes) as late as the December administration but they urge you to take it no later than the November administration. Probably to give yourself a fail-safe option if something goes wrong in December.

On another note, I would encourage you to get a study guide (I recommend Barrons) for the SAT II Math II test, just to make sure your class covered everything you will need on the test. Also good as a review.

Is there anyone who thinks I should take the SAT in June?
