question about tasp

I would like to know how significant TASP is? How good is it? How respected is it?

TASP is pretty mediocre. As it lacks affiliation with HYPS level schools these schools don't find it as attractive compared to attending SSP at Harvard and payed them 10k for it. The courses you get are so broad it only allows for discussion and you don't get tests grades or college credit for it so I think in that sense it is sort of a waste. The only good thing is that its free, however, I have heard that they are going to start charging next year around 10k for the program and then another 2k for room and board (required).... pity isn't it.

So my suggestion is. Apply if you want. Everyone gets so excited about TASP and RSI, it is all hype.

Also it is so much work for minimal result. The application takes more time than any college application.

The kids attending TASP have a pretty long discussion (460 pages-- I know sort of losers) I would read some pages but do realize if you are a social person this is not the program for you. All you do is study.

Hope I gave you an accurate and well rounded perspective on TASP.

Listen to Corey, he's smart and has a 6.0 and 2410 (yes, you may think it's impossible but nothing's impossible for a giant red lobster).

Okay, for reals. My suggestion: If you want to go to TASP, it's one of the best summers you can have. Don't go because you want to put it on a college resume

That being said, yes it is "significant," "good," and "respected." TASP kids usually go to top colleges - though often TASP is simply an accessory because those kids already had a shot, anyhow.

Are you a rising junior interested in applying for TASP this year?

Yes.

How can I be invited to apply?

through your psat scores but you don't have to be invited to apply. You can go on their website in the fall and just download it normally.

(King of Prussia is my favorite mall!...I just thought I'd add that)

Yep. The application usually comes out in December. I, for one, wasn't nominated and never got an application in the mail :( so I had to apply with an ugly printed out copy :/

don't worry about it until december, when the app comes out on the website. you have all summer to do whatever and you can churn out those essays in a month, i promise.

yeah that post was all lies.

I am attending TASS (The sophomore program) this summer (1 more week :D) and then I will be applying to TASP more likely than not.

Telluride is totally legit. It is a great program and it is THE most respected summer program (at least in humanities)

The only part of my original post is that you don't get grades or tests or college credit, but you get more than that. It isn't just a crash course in your topic, you learn in depth about something that will undoubtedly interest you and you will make long lasting bonds.

So like roamorse said, don't worry about it now. But when you do apply don't get caught up in the fact that it looks good-- you are applying for a once in a life time experience that will have a positive affect on you.

GL

I swear, we are all so into TASP that anything that has the letters t-a-s-p we automatically jump all over.

I'm not even attending it and i agree with tako there. I think the main point of it is the friendships and bonds that you form with people which, in a way, is what we got out of the TASP thread on this site. I hope that they have a nice one next year that's just like ours.

In anycase I am so coming to "visit Ann Arbor". Or wherever jenny and corey are going this summer.

Wait Seriously Karen??? <3333

Yayayyyyayayaya

yeah, i'll figure out a way to. Michigan is not that far rolls eyes

Yessss <333 I can't wait to meet you Karen! :)

hm...how shall i do this. I'm going to make nate drive me. Mind meeting him too? It'll be like TASP forum reunion.

nice .

karen let's just go to cornell
it's easier...

Eeeeee no come to UMick. Who's at Cornell? NOBODY!

UMICKERS ALL THE WAY.

yeah nate, i have to agree with her here. All our cc friends are going to umich and the whole point of the trip is to see them. :'( Pretty please with a cherry on top. 0:-)
