One of my top schools is Boston College and I was looking on their website and it says that they recommend that both recommendations be from teachers who taught me in one of the five main subject areas. One of my recommendations is from an English teacher and the other is from my orchestra teacher who’s also the head of music and art for the district. Should I be worried that my second isn’t from a teacher from one of the five main subjects and will this have a great impact on my application? I can probably ask another teacher, but I feel like it’s awkward at this point.
Yes, you should be concerned about not following such clear instructions from a top choice school. I would absolutely get one more recommendation from an academic teacher. Do it now, even if it is awkward. The orchestra teacher can serve as an additional recommendation from a teacher who knows you in more of a non-academic setting (even if orchestra is a class in your HS it is not an academic class).
