I posted my question on my thread asking about the 2010 application. I appreciated House of London's reply (thanks for the help!), but I would like it if more people to reply and offer their insight and opinions on my questions.

Before the SU website was revamped, I printed out the requirements they had posted. It previously said that they preferred two recs from college prep class teachers from sophomore year on. Now, with the newly designed website, such specifications are gone.

Does that mean we just need any two teachers to write us a recommendation? Would foreign language be considered a college prep class? Would getting a rec from a teacher who taught you your sophomore year be okay (I know most say it should be a teacher from junior/senior year..)?

Also, with some research, I found out that foreign language is considered a Humanities course. I was thinking of getting a rec from my foreign lang teacher and my English teacher...Would that not be recommended since I'm getting two English/Humanities recs instead of at least one Math/Sciences?

I'm sorry for the multitude of questions, but I'd really appreciate any responses. Thank you in advance!

Weird, college prep courses? I’m a freshman and I sent in 1 regular and 1 ap letter of recommendation. For me it was my AP Enviro teacher but also my global world culture teacher who I’d only had in sophomore year. A friend of mine who also goes here and is a sophomore got letter from her Italian teacher and maths teacher, both non AP/college prep.

^Thank you for the reply! Well college prep isn’t really a level. They’re courses needed to earn a college prep diploma in high school, probably the traditional English-math-sci-social studies. I’m just wondering whether foreign language would fall under college prep also. And I’m wondering whether submitting two recs from two english/humanities teacher instead of the expected(?) one math/sci and one eng/humanities would be okay, since math and sciences are not my stronger subjects…

See, I would think that they would WANT teachers from Sophomore year, and Junior, of course. Why would colleges want Senior year teachers? They’ve only had you for a month or two before you send out your apps in some cases. And I think if you’re going into a math or science they want at least one to be from a teacher of math or science. Spanish is most likely college prep though, at my school although it’s an elective, it’s still like a “core” class that is mentioned along with Math and History.

I didnt know that the recs had to be “college prep” courses. Would a rec from a Latin teacher I had for two years that knows me very well and a teacher for a leadership class i also had for two years and also knows me very well be appropriate? Thank you!

Shesthesummer - I am not sure whether recs must be from college prep course teachers or not. That’s what it said on the website BEFORE the new layout… I am not sure, which is why I am asking on this thread. But about the Latin teacher… yes, I personally think it will be appropriate.

x501, im a freshman @ the cuse also and last year i sent in 2- Math teacher and AP English language teacher (both taught me junior year). I did however have a few others. Generally, it doesnt make a difference what your teacher teaches, onless you have a gift for something (for example Band teacher for music, acting teacher for…acting, etc etc) Im a Sports Management and Poly Sci major and Math and english arent too related to either so i wouldnt sweat it. Just make sure theyre teacher you trust and you know 100% will right you a beneficial rec

@lisatuck : although I’m still going through the application process myself, from what I’ve gathered the rule is usually two teacher recs and one counselor rec.
