Question about textbooks

Ok, so I'm really confused about when I should get my textbooks..
All of my classes have the required/optional books listed when I click on the order textbook button in the student center, so I know which books I need.

But a lot of people say to wait until you know if you actually need it from that specific professor...

So I guess my question is, should I just wait until the semester starts to order my books, or should I order them now?
And will it still be easy to get the books after the first couple of days?

Thanks for the help, I'm just really confused about this, lol!

My son is an incoming sophomore. He waited until he arrived on campus to buy his books last year. By that time there were no used texts and we couldn’t get them online. We paid top dollar for new texts. This year I put the ISBN numbers into Amazon and bought all used texts for a fraction of the cost. Renting texts is also possible. I suggest you buy used or rent all the required texts and only wait on the optional ones. JMHO

I personally would buy them so you can get used books. If you decide not to take the class, or the professor says you don’t need it, you can return it to TIS the first couple weeks for a 100% refund. Not sure if IUBookstore is the same since I never bought from them, but TIS has a pretty generous return policy. Just keep your receipts.

RE: the optional texts, unless you’re a chem major…you can generally pass on those. Chemistry classes have the problem books and whatnot as optional texts, but you’ll want them

You can try this:

1) Find the ISBN for your class:

[T.I.S. College Bookstore - Textbooks](<a href=“The Indiana Shop – Gameday Spirit Fanstore”>The Indiana Shop – Gameday Spirit Fanstore)

2) Find a cheaper version:

[Comparison results for: Essentials of Sociology: A Down-to-earth Approach Books a La Carte Edition by James M. Henslin](http://www.allbookstores.com/book/compare/0205218253)

enter the ISBN number and click “GO” followed by clicking “compare prices”

Alright thanks guys, much appreciated!! I’ll do some looking online for the best prices, and order the rest from TIS.
