Question about the Additional Information on Common App

So I was thinking about editing the additional information section on my common app, but would it be alright to talk a BIT about my status as an international? (I have lived in the US for 16 years, I am 17. But my family hasn’t been able to get permanent residency yet due to some complications) I was going to talk a bit about some restrictions I have in terms of finances (and receiving aid) and how I hope they will look beyond my status?
A couple of people I asked told me that I should go for it (but to restrict it to a minimum) while some others told me that it wouldn’t be wise.
I am curious as to know what anyone else thinks?

Thank you all very much! (Sorry if this is in the wrong area of the forum…)

I don’t think it will make a difference in your application status.

@intparent So do you suggest that I just not put it in? Or should I?

Thank you very much!

What college(s)? That may make a difference.

We are also waiting for our green card and in US since 2001. I called few colleges and all told to select no visa and put details in additional information section like green card is pending. I was also told this will make difference if asking for financial aid or else there is no difference and they will look at the application as a domestic applicant.

@intparent I was thinking about putting this for colleges that I personally find much more significant into gaining entrance and perhaps attending, such as Ithaca College, Colgate University, Boston University, etc.

@katsar2001 Unfortunately, for my family we were not given a specific date as to when we will receive our green card. My family estimates that it will be around next year however.

So should I put down in the additional information about my situation? Or will my difficult status make the colleges a bit reluctant in allowing me entrance into their educational institute?

Thank you all for your responses!

They already know you are an international. With no target date for a green card, I doubt they will grant you leeway. You can describe your situation, but make sure you apply someplace you know you can get into and that will be affordable if you aren’t granted any aid.
