Question about the blue book and Direct Hits

Hello. I want to prep for the SAT on my own, therefore I'd need books.
Concerning the Blue Book, there's 2 editions - my question is, if I have the second edition, would the first edition have new tests to offer to me? Meaning, if I already have the 2nd edition of the BB, do I need to buy the 1st edition too if I need new additional practice tests?
My vocabulary is relatively weak so I guess I'd need vocab books too, and I've heard Direct Hits were the best so far; could anyone link me to or tell me what are the 2 newest books of Direct Hits (core vocab and toughest vocab)? Because from what I've understood, they release new books every year to adapt to the SAT.

Thank you!

No. you don’t need the first edition. Second edition contains 7 of the 8 practice tests included in first edition, along with 3 new ones. Unless you are completely out of tests, you do not need the 1st edition.

For vocab try DH 4th edition core + toughest ( newest right now, 2013 is not out yet) or 300 essential words. 300 essential words is by Larry Krieger(one of the authors of Direct Hits) and it’s format is extremely similar to direct hits. People claim to have success in 2012’s SATs with 300 essential words. The only downside is… that it is only available as an ebook. So you either need a mobile device (kindle, ipod/pad/phone etc) or a computer to read it .

GOOD LUCK

Are DH and 300 essential words really similar or can I get both? If I end up getting only one which one would you recommend?

Thanks!

Yes they have, indeed, a lot of repeated words. if you can get either direct hits or 300 essential words, i will advise you to get direct hits core + toughest. However, if you can only get 1 book, you should get 300 essential words. Remember, those words + definition are widely available on quizlet ;)
