I heard a lot of people saying that it's harder for Chinese people to get in Universities like Stanford, Harvard or other good schools....
I just don't think it's fair for us.... Can anyone tell me why....
thx a lot

Because they want to show diversity on campus, so they'd reject some very well qualified applicants in favor of nearly as well qualified people from minority groups.

(I'm not trying to be racist or anything~ heck, I'm Chinese myself...)

It’s a culture for Chinese people who have aspirations to attend Harvard to work really, really hard, so their results (in transcripts, test scores, awards, EC’s) are automatically some what better than the normal application pool

So if they only accept people based on their application, I bet a huge chunk of Harvard would be brimmed with Chinese kids

Yet that would look really bad in the diversity area, so they try to limit to pool of Chinese students in favor of other minority groups as well

So that would mean raising the bar for Chinese kids, since each year we try harder, but the number of applications accepted isn’t proportional to our efforts

Hence we have a harder time getting in

Does that make sense? O_o

pretty much.... Harvard is for the smart and the rich anyway....
it's not my school.....
i prefer Richmond =P

BTW....thx for ur help

Harvard claims today, and I believe the claim provisionally, that it is not just for the rich but for students from any economic background. See

for a report on some of Harvard's efforts to recruit lower-income students.

See the general FAQ thread

for what is known (not enough, in my opinion, because of lack of verifiable data) about how ethnicity may or may not affect admission chances at various colleges, not particularly including Harvard.
